IPVanish Windows VPN Client Review

This month we’ll be reviewing a number of VPN clients from leading services like IPVanish.  While there are some technical users who might enjoy the flexibility of setting up manual VPN connections we know that isn’t the case for most.  So easy to use VPN clients are a must.  IPVanish has a simple Windows client that allows access to any of their servers without any configuration.  Simply choose a VPN server and click to connect.

After signing up for IPVanish you’ll receive an email with a link to the Windows client.  If you ever lose the email you can also visit their software download page at anytime to pick up the client.  There are a few prerequisites required for the client but IPVanish has it covered.  The installation checks for Windows Installer 3.1, Microsoft .NET Framework 4 client profile and OpenVPN TAP driver.  Automatically installing any necessary updates.

After installing the IPVanish Windows client you’ll find an icon on your desktop.  To launch the software just double click the application.  The IPVanish client will check and update to the latest version.  Once launched you can browse through all the VPN servers as shown below.

Choose any of IPVanish’s 39+ servers across 15 countries including the United States, United Kingdom ,Canada, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Denmark, Netherlands, Japan, Hungary, Turkey, Switzerland, Poland, Portugal and Malaysia.  Once you decide on a server click on the Connect button.  IPVanish will establish the connection and show ‘Connected’ with a green circle at the bottom of the client.  Click the Disconnect button to end the connection.  You can also switch between servers anytime on-the-fly.

If you ever want to test your IP address while connected just click on ‘Connection’ and then ‘Check IP Address’.  The resulting page on the IPVanish site will show your IP address along with location.  They also include a view log option along with links to the IPVnish forum, FAQ and technical support.
