GoDaddy Sites and Email Down

Just how difficult is it to take down a major registrar that’s responsible for hosting millions of websites and DNS entries?  Apparently it’s a lot easier than you might think.  Today a hacker took responsibility for a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack against GoDaddy.  In the process hurting far more than GoDaddy’s business interests.  As many small businesses host their sites and rely on GoDaddy for email and DNS.  The outage is affecting some VPN services as well.  HideIPVPN has a post in regards to the issue on their site.

We don’t want to speak out of turn since the news is just breaking of the GoDaddy DDoS attack but it’s disappointing that a company as large and important in the hosting space as GoDaddy wouldn’t have measures in place to thwart the attack.  Again though we don’t know the extent of the attack.  Regardless we wish GoDaddy support personnel the best in resolving the issue and planning for future actions.
